報(bào)告人簡介:
Manuele Faccenda, obtained a Master’s degree in Geology at University of Perugia in 2005, and a PhD in Geophysics at ETH Zurich in 2009. After two years as research fellow at Monash University (Australia), in 2012 he was hired as a researcher at the Department of Geoscience, University of Padova, where since 2018 he is Associate Professor. The research activities mainly focus on the study of the Earth’s internal structure and dynamics by means of numerical methods aimed at the modeling of geological and geophysical phenomena, and seismological survey techniques such as seismic tomography. He has many publications in SCI journals like Nature, Nature Geosciences, and Nature Communications, he has been acknowledged with the Arne Richter award and the Flinn-Hart award.
? ? ? ? Abstract:
? ? ? ?Seismology reveals Earth’s structure, but data interpretation faces non-uniqueness, as different processes produce similar signals. Ignoring anisotropy in regional models creates misleading “apparent” velocity anomalies. Geodynamic modeling complements seismology by simulating tectonic processes to predict isotropic/anisotropic rock properties, validated against seismic data (e.g., SKS splitting, tomography). This integration reduces uncertainties and facilitates the development of new inversion methods.
? ? ? ?The seminar highlights (i) the importance of inverting for seismic anisotropy to have a more informative view of the Earth’s interior, (ii) ECOMAN, a new open-source software designed to Explore the COnsequences of Mechanical Anisotropy in the maNtle by means of combined of geodynamic and seismological simulations, and (iii) a few applications of a new seismic inversion technique.
